Screaming
04:28
|
|||
In the screaming night
With the sky so blue it’s black
I find a little summer
The simmering heat
The cool of that ol’ AC
Shaking the sill of the window
That creep that knows my name
They’re always watching
They’ll follow me home
That creature that smells the kill
Won’t stop hunting
‘Til they get their fill
I’m screaming now
My baby shakes me
Like I’m chock full of cobwebs
Trying to get my attention
Saying that creep don’t know my name
“They’re non-existent
It was all in a dream
With the way you were crying out
I had to save you
You’re safe with me
You don’t have to hide
That faceless ghost
Ain’t gonna find you”
I drift back to sleep
Dream of shifting city streets
A clusterfuck countryside
And the coolest of breeze
Saying "that creep don’t know my name
They’re non-existent
It was all a bad dream”
What in the fuck was my brain
Trying to tell me?
Oh man, I can be so mean

Supermoon
03:51
|
|||
What a privilege to be alive
In the same time
That you were in it too
Now what am I to do?
Beneath the supermoon
There you go
Outlandish!
Obscene!
On your own path, so it seems
I looked up to you, and you picked me up
So you could look up to me
Beneath the supermoon
There you go
Now I’m here sharing a bowl of peach ice cream
With the girl of my dreams
Oh, my riverboat captain, my shaman, my fiend
My van dwelling bird, you flew away from me
Beneath the supermoon
There you go

Do Better, Man!
03:14
|
|||
You catch me up on the same ol’ stories
I’ve heard a million times before
You shift your tone and I get worried
I saw your name destroyed
Abuse
Reuse
Confuse
Get through
All this time have you been playing with my head?
Did you ever learn?
I know there are times you’d defend it to your death
So you see my concern
Abuse
Reuse
Confuse
It’s not you
I know you can do better, man

Go Home
02:44
|
|||
Let’s go home, I just wanna be alone with you
Let’s go home, I just wanna be alone with you
Since the day we met, it just felt right
Mine was yours and yours was mine
I tried and tried and got it right with you
Let’s go home, I just wanna be alone with you
Let’s go home, I just wanna be alone with you
This place is boring anyway
If we wanna leave we could just say
That the dog is hungry and hasn’t gone out enough today
Get into some harmless fight
Find out that we both were right
Close the door and then kiss you goodnight
Since the day we met, it just felt right
Mine was yours and yours was mine
I tried and tried and got it right with you
Since the day we met, it just felt right
Mine was yours and yours was mine
Mine and yours and yours was home
I just wanna be alone with you

When You're Not Around
05:03
|
|||
You’re keeping up with keeping me honest
Not that I feel like lying anyway
And I never feel like there’s a problem
Between our give and take
Now I’m learning to sleep a little longer
Finally learning how to settle in
I’ve gotten used to feeding the dog
And feeling comfy in my own skin
Now I can’t crawl out of bed
If the sun ain’t comin’ out
And you’re not here to get me moving
I’m slowing down when you’re not around
I’m learning, slowly, to be a partner
To give a little and cut some slack
She’d wait for me if I went leavin’
And I’d wait right back
She’s got me longing for endless summer
She’s got me craving skin on skin
And if I can’t find the combination
She just lets me in
Now I can’t crawl out of bed
If the sun ain’t comin’ out
And you’re not here to get me moving
I’m slowing down when you’re not around

Runnin' From The Devil
03:34
|
|||
That ol’ Wes
Texas bound with a cracked thumb knuckle
Reaching down on the butt of his gun
He came in riding on a dust storm
Lookin’ for someone to love
Since the day he was born
That wild Wes
Swimming in the full toxicity
Whistlin’ a little tune
The song got lost in the gusts of the wind
And it carried to the moon
Where ya headed?
Where ya off to now?
Are you running from the devil or just from yourself?
I never got you figured out
That ol’ Wes
Oh, he finally found her
That Texas gal of his dreams
She broke him right in two
Really split him down at the seems
Up on that ol’ appaloosa stallion
On a fine spring day
Singin’ to the bluebells that were painted by the sky
And through the woods they would ride away
Where they headed?
Where they off to now?
Are they running from the devil or just from themselves?
Tell me, where they headed?
Tell me where they off to now?
Are they running from the devil?

Lonely Like Me
02:56
|
|||
I can hear you like a voice in my head
I can speak your name like words I hadn’t thought of yet
Yeah, I could prick you like a thorn in your side
If I haven’t yet, if I haven’t taken the time
Baby, don’t cry
Can I collapse in your lap like I was a child?
Baby, don’t cry
I could scratch your back and maybe some day you would get mine
I’ve been keeping you in my head
With my fear of death and my existential dread
Would it really matter if we fell in love
In the grand scheme of things, if we are just specks of dust?
Baby, don’t cry
Can I collapse in your lap like I was a child?
Baby, don’t cry
I could scratch your back and maybe some day you would get mine
If you’re lonely
If you’re lonely, just like me
We could keep be each other’s company

Fool's Gold
04:15
|
|||
Everybody’s listening to tired voices
Some don’t have much to say
Some are really showing their truest colors
They’re tone-deaf, but hey, they’re getting paid
Well, you can hate all you want but you carry it with you
Yeah, you can say what you want but your words hold weight
Yeah, you can pray for your traditions on your knees
You can pay in fool’s gold for heaven’s entry fees
You can take all you want, but you can’t take it with you
Some of us wake up every morning
Wondering what we’re gonna see today
And others get riled without a warning
Like those mascots are their only friends
Well, you can hate all you want but you carry it with you
Yeah, you can say what you want but your words hold weight
Yeah, you can pray for your traditions on your knees
You can pay in fool’s gold for heaven’s entry fees
You can take all you want, but you can’t take it with you

Summer time has come and gone
Winter now is running strong
And I know it’s even colder still
Wherever you are
But I still hope, some day, you warm up your heart
Because you were mean and terrifying
Manipulating and spittin’ lies
But it’s alright now, I’ve left it all behind
I clicked my heels
And now the sun always shines
It’s funny how easy
A decision can be
When the choices are a beating
Or just getting up to leave
The father, son, and the Holy Ghost
Satan’s shadow and Jean Vigo
Can all see the things that you were bringing on
More than I know
But I’m long in the tooth and deaf as a post

Second Chances
04:51
|
|||
Jenny calls to apologize
She says “my son is such a hot head sometimes.
I don’t know where he got it from, I tried to raise him right.
It’s from his father’s side.”
We got into it, catching fists
I called him out for defending racists
He told me to get over myself
I told him to get bent
We used to be best friends
It’s funny how some things work out
How your mind can change when you age
But so much stays the same
I get lost scrolling through the feed
Lately, I feel I’m losing steam
I’m feeling helpless from the things that I’ve seen
But this was never about me
My old friends form a trauma bond
From catching teargas and defusing bombs
They say “is this Minneapolis or Vietnam?
It’s not the country I’m from.”
We have been disenchanted
From giving second chances
And rightfully so
My mother calls me to check in
She says “you have no clue what trouble we’re in”
I said I talked to my uncle and now Christmas might get weird
It’s been one hell of a year
